==================================================================== Main San Gabriel Basin Watermaster -- ARC/INFO Coverages on the Web ==================================================================== 03/06/2001 1. Introduction. Watermaster is making available for download selected GIS coverages from its database. All files were created by EXPORTing ARC/INFO 7.x or 8.x coverages on a Sun workstation, using the FULL compression option. After downloading, the user needs only to IMPORT the .E00 files into ARC/INFO. If you do not have ARC/INFO, an alternative is to utilize ESRI's ArcExplorer 2 program to view the data. You will first need to convert the .E00 files into coverages using ESRI's ArcExplorer Import Utility. Both these programs are available for free download at: http://www.esri.com/company/free.html 2. Base map coverages. The following coverages are made available for base map or reference purposes: HYDBASIN -- the hydrographic boundary of the Main San Gabriel Basin. The PAT file contains a single attribute, MATERIAL, where a value of 1 indicates aquifer material and 2 indicates non-water bearing formation. ROADS -- freeways and major highways and arterials in the basin. Each arc has an attribute called NAME which contains the name of the roadway. STREAMS -- stream channels in the basin. Each arc has an attribute called NAME which contains the name of the stream. SPREAD -- spreading basins in the basin. No attributes, but there is annotation giving the name of each basin or spreading grounds. The annosymbol is 1; annosize is 150. RELWSHED -- the relevant watershed boundary, Watermaster's legal administrative boundary. No attributes. 3. Groundwater level coverages. The following coverages contain data suitable for constructing groundwater level maps: For the July 1996 sampling round: JUL96CON -- groundwater level contours. For the January 1997 sampling round: JAN97CON -- groundwater level contours. For the July 1997 sampling round: JUL97CON -- groundwater level contours. For the January 1998 sampling round: JAN98CON -- groundwater level contours. For the July 1998 sampling round: JUL98CON -- groundwater level contours. For the January 1999 sampling round: JAN99CON -- groundwater level contours. For the July 1999 sampling round: JUL99CON -- groundwater level contours. For the January 2000 sampling round: JAN00CON -- groundwater level contours. Attributes for all groundwater contour coverages are as follows: CONTOUR = elevation value, in feet. HACHURE = 0 or 1; if 1, arc should be drawn with a hachure linesymbol, indicating a depression. DASHED = 0 or 1; if 1, the line is inferred and should be drawn dashed. LABEL = 0 or 1; if 1, the arc should be labelled using the ARCTEXT command. Other arcs should not be labelled. 4. Additional coverages. Another coverage needed in reconstructing groundwater level maps is the FAULTS coverage. The arcs should be rendered with a dashed line, because the fault locations are inferred. 5. Final notes. All files, except this one, are in Unix format. Projection information for all coverages: UTM Zone 11, units are meters, and the datum is NAD83 (not NAD27).
